Just the other day, I bumped into a parent in my school-one of those people with whom it’s a genuine pleasure to interact.
Our conversation veered around to her daughter and she brought up something that was so very disturbing – she revealed that her daughter, being a little chubby, had been fat-shamed in school, and had even had her lunch forcibly taken away from her. Apparently, comments like” You’re too fat to need food” were common.
I was not just horrified, but shocked to learn that these incidents had occurred when she was in Class VI.
Honestly, is this what our schools teach us? Whatever happened to inclusive education?
For all you kids out there, read my lips -DO NOT SUCCUMB TO SHAMING.
Whether fat, purple-skinned or tentacled , you are uniquely you. Don’t be defined by the perceptions of others.
And finally, a word to the bullies – grow up, get a life and BE KIND. Life’s too short to be nasty.
